I'd love a Hilux Crew Cab D4d. Can't get them here. It's all a matter of perspective.

All is not gold...ugh
So, I got an independent inspector to go out to the dealer in Austin to check on the car. Notably dis functional is the top and rollover headrests. They don't work. It gets as far as the windows rolling down and then nothing. The rollovers are integrated so that could be their problem as well. This could be as simple as a fuse or worse yet its the pump. This must be the achilles heel of this particular car because I've been told the actuators/pistons have been replaced. Its resolution is critical to the sale of the car, but was also wondering what the cost of overhauling the cabriolet hydraulics would be, roughly. I may be able to negotiate the repair because the rest of the car is deemed roadworthy, original mileage, and very good condition for its age.

I'm searching but I haven't seen any estimates in here.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob
In my honest opinion if that is the extent of it's troubles I would still go for it regardless.
From the pictures (and yes looks can be deceiving) that is one fine example of the marque and a rar-ish one at that. It would be well worth throwing a couple grand into restoring it to it's former glory. It comes from a warm climate not the slush puppy snowmobile's of the north with their salted roads and should therefore not exhibit the troubles that I often see cited in here from the northern dwellers.
Can't help with cost estimate's - but I am sure it will be worth every cent !

Did find reference to these guys who specialise in this problem :

http://tophydraulicsinc.com/

and something about $550 for overhauling the entire set of hydraulic cylinders.

Have a read of this post:

Cheers

Ray

I think its proceedural.
Good advice indeed.
It seems the operating procedure may not have been followed correctly by the inspector. The fact that the system lowered the windows but then dod not lower the roof has me spooked. Especially since it is going to be in the 80s in Texas on Friday and raining in Chicago on Sunday. That would be a drag if the roof doesn't work.

320 Cab Hydraulic Post
Bob
There is an excellent post elsewhere about the 320 Cab Hydraulic Cyl job.
Have a read of that also. He has an excellent PDF file on the procedure !

Although it's different model many of the processes may be similar.

I am relatively certain the hydraulics and the entire cab/roll bar system is the same from 1992-95. Before you spend any money make sure they followed a few simple things. The tops need good voltage to operate. Best to try it with the motor running. Also they are sensitive to the procedure. Front latches open top pushed slightly up. If there is a problem the switch will blink, it's flashing a code that you can read and hopefully clear. If the cylinders are leaking you will see drips under the car. You were given some good links. There is much more help out there than when I had cylinder problems.

Good luck and there is help online.

Thanks all. I will be sure to read over the procedure in the supplement. It seemed on the car that I checked out here in Chicago the top operated with the motor running. From my conversation with the dealer he said the inspector most likely did not put the key into the position 2 lock and the result was a no go. The salesman wasn't there to help but he went out and performed the operation this am and it works a peach. Thanks again for the support folks. Road Trip indeed!
