Rear Sway Bar Installation Question

I installed the "limo" bar on the front of my '93 300D. I've been meaning to balance the bigger front bar by installing the 500e sway bar on the back. Here's my questioin:

The MB shop manual says that it is likely that you have to unbolt the drive shaft and drop the rear asssembly to get the rear sway bar in and out. I have hesitated to make the swap because of this warning.

Has anyone out there done this? Is it really going to be necessary to do all that surgery? Any advice and tips would be welcome.

Thanks,

Caleb

You will have to drop the rear subframe. You should not have to undo the driveshaft though. If you are doing this at home on the ground. Jack it up and put it on jack stands on the frame. take your floor jack and put it under the differential. Take the 4 bolts out of the subframe to the body and drop slowly. You might have to help it a little. Make sure that no fuel lines or brake lines or wirng is getting pulled on. You do not have to drop it all that much to get it in. Maybe 4-5 inches.

My shop had to do exactly that. You do that or drop the subframe out :P

Thanks...

Thanks for the confirmation that my trepidation was not unwarranted. But, it doesn't sound too difficult. I will study up and prepare myself to take this on.
