Front Toe

I just had my front toe re-checked and the garage set it to 0.0/0.0 using the spec for a 309/310/313 1995-2000! I didn't read the printout until I got home!
What's a 309/310/313 (some sort of van?)
Will 0.0 toe matter?
The correct spec I think is 0.6 - 1.6.
Is it worth taking it back?

Take it back, or go somewhere else where they have more of a clue...you really don't want to run those specs on a Mercedes...also make sure they use the 70 lb. spreader bar when they do the fronts, per the factory procedure.

Please tell me more about alignment.

Please tell me more about the spreader bar and anything else special about aligning a Benz. My Porsche tuner aligned my car and it feels good, but I would really like to know all about the correct procedure and I would love to have the specifications for a sportline set-up.

Alignment Specifications

Hello cap’n jasper,

I dug out the alignment specifications that were printed out when my 1995 E320 was aligned after I added the Eibach springs. The Porsche race-tuner mechanic found specifications for Mercedes Benz, 92-95, 124.034, Sport Suspension. I asked for minimum toe in hopes that the tires would not get worn-out on the the outside edge of the front tires and I thought the rear camber should be in line with the maximum range for the front specification. I figured the rear camber wasn’t specified because it isn’t adjustable from the factory, but I have the K-MAC rear bushings so I wanted it adjusted. The following number are all measured in units of degrees.

Front
Camber: Min -1.33, Nominal -1.00, Max -0.83, Actual Left -1.2, Actual Right -1.1
Caster: Min 9.92, Nominal 10.42, Max 10.92, Actual Left 10.5, Actual Right10.1
Toe: Min 0.08, Nominal 0.17, Max 0.25, Actual left 0.09, Actual Right 0.08

Cross Camber: Min -0.33, Nominal 0.00, Max 0.33, Actual -0.00
Cross caster: Min -0.50, Nominal 0.00, Max 0.50, Actual 0.8
Total Toe 0.17 0.33 0.50 0.18

Rear
Camber: Actual Left -1.2, Actual Right -1.3
Toe: Min 0.13, Nominal 0.21, Max 0.29, Actual Left 0.14, Actual Right 0.15

Total Toe: Min 0.25, Nominal 0.42, Max 0.59, Actual 0.29

My car has a sporty look with the visible negative camber, it handles very well, it tracks straight, and so far my tires do not seem to be worn on the the outside edge like they were when the car was stock.

I hope this helps you,

Ken

Thanks ksing,
Your figures are a little different from the W124 sportline settings on the printout from my alignment shop. I don't think they know what they're doing!
When they first set it up it was fine for about a week then it started to understeer badly. I also noticed a slight rattle from the left front that I thought was the brake pads. When I took it back again the rattle disappeared which leads me to think that they left something loose!
Anyway, my rear sportline bar arrived a couple of days ago so I'm going to fit it in the next few days and then take the car to my MB dealer for another alignment.
I'll keep you posted.

If you bring your MB to a dealer for the alignment..they will have the spreader bar (or should !).

That's what I figured. I guess they will also use the spreader bar on my wallet!

Ha...LOL...so true Capn'...so true. Unfortunately, some things on these cars are best left to a dealer...alignments being one of them, IMO.
