1987 300E Tumbler removal from plastic housing

I have a 1987 300E. My trunk tumbler is fine, but the plastic housing it is in needs to be replaced as the latch part is not working properly. I disconnected the rod that connects the vacuum assembly to the trunk latch & tumbler housing, unscrewed and removed the entire housing and took it apart. It slides apart in two pieces, one being the part that has the latch in it and the other being the part that has the tumbler in it. But, for the life of me I cannot figure out how to remove the tumbler from the plastic encasement as shown in the pics. As you can see I have removed the circlip from the other end of the tumbler. As you can see in the other pic with the key in it, there is a little opening - the only one in the plastic housing - (about 3/8 in diameter) that exposes just a tiny bit of the cylinder inside. I`ve tried every combination of poking the hole with an awl, moving the key different ways, taking the key out, etc but I can`t seem to get the tumbler out.

Anyone know the trick to removing the tumbler?
