@@@ PLEASE help :o Relay switch??
Omg, my husband bought me a 1991 CE with no air and poorly running. Sooo I took it to a trusty mechanic who replaced computer, ovp, tune up, and 5k later I picked up car and it ran great! Ice cold air yay! 3 days later it just randomly won't start. So I took it back to the trusty mechanic and he says oh needs battery and so I pay 90 for a check it out and 150. for a new battery.I drive home and then drive to store and bam, again it wont start, should I still have to pay my mechanic to check it out further after replacing my battery that was probably ok! Could it be a relay switch? It doesn't not turn over.
Please advise! Can't afford to pay pricy mechanic and have an issue that wasn't an issue before. I wanna drive my car! Snif
Thank you!

My bet is your mechanic doesn't know one end of a W124 from another from the sounds of it - and becuse it's a Merc he is rubbing his hands with glee !
A car battery place would have run the check for nothing and if it was dead - sold you a new battery ! I can't believe he charged you for testing the friggin ' battery !
And yes DrWambo could well be right there. Starts one minute won't start the next !

appreciate it
Thank you guys so much, today it started up no problems. If it happens again I will take to someone else to check out the ignition. Now that Ive gotten a little educated about it wont be so easy to replace already good parts. I stayed up half the night researching these babies lol.

On saying that the W124 is by far one of the most satisfying vehicles I have ever owned. As you can see from my signature picture my 1988 300CE is my pride and joy -I absolutely love driving it and marvelling at how solid it feels around me.
Enjoy it - and be assured you have one of the most soon-to-be-classic automobiles made in recent times !

Thank you Stormtiger & Saijin, I'm feeling better already! I do have some pics on my computer that I will try to post when I can. There are a few things I'm needing to restore like the wood console front & back and the center air vent slats. Window tint and maybe some cool new wheels @ some point. The body and interior is in excellent condition. =)

Yeah Kimmy, very nice tidy car.
One think I forgot to mention - make sure you hang on to all receipts with your car.
If you visit here and ask uestions when you having problems, it makes helping diagnose issues much easier if you can authoritatevly say "this part was changed".
Which brings me to the questions - you mentioned he changed a computer ?
Which one does the receipt say ? MAS or something ?
Now you mentioned wheels might be on the agenda !
Saijin - what do you think would set off the white ?
I think a set of AMG Type 3's look pretty good with the white !

Alarm System
Not knowing the ins and outs of the 300,
yet I would make sure that the alarm isn't giving you any trouble.
There is a relay behind the Instrument cluster that some had problems with.
Is your car making any noise, e.g. clicking or does your Engine just not turn over, but you hear some sort of click?
If you can't hear any noise i.e. clicking when turning the key, it's worth to check the Alarm system.
There is a starter disable relay that could well be the culprit.
If it happens again, get out of the car and lock / unlock the doors (perhaps a few times) with the master key on the driver side which is the one you use to start the engine.
See, if the car starts after the lock/unlock procedure.
Gud Luk.
