1992 500e ASRlight- help

Hi guys my mechanic has been pulling his hair out with my 500e ASR light. There is lots out there but seems to be mostly shotgun part changing. Anyone have some constructive advice? Thanks as always

problem; ASR light on and stuck in limp home mode

1992 500e m/b

Tried Replaced upper and lower engine harness still has ASR//LH

With a launch scan tool I have a code 051 from the EA/CC/ISC module and 06 from DM module

051 Idle safety contact switch M16/1s2
06 Idle speed control incorrect fault from EA/CC/ISC

Testing the electric accelerator the switches show that they are working.
Using the scan tool the m16/1s2 is on until half throtle and then off
m16/1s1 is off until half throtle and then on
ohm test shows the same.

Have your guy check the nuetral lock-out switch...

Many times the code(s) lead you no where and do not point to the real problem(s). BTDT myself with my 500E.

Thats interesting, never would of thought a neutral switch would cause that issue, wouldn't the car not start with a bad neutral switch, or is that only if park switch is bad. i forget

Neither did I.... and neither do many un-familiar mechanics.

Even a failing $25 brake light switch can trigger the LH mode on this vintage of MB electronics.

IMHO, Jim is spot on. I had an ASR/Limp Home Mode problem in my 500E for months. Cruising down the freeway and BAM - LHM for no apparent reason. I checked all the usual suspects but still kept getting LHM. Until I changed the Neutral Safety Switch on the tranny ... fixed the problem. No more LHM.
