speakers

i see that front speakers have a removable peice that underneath accesses teh speakers but i don't know how to take that peice off without denting/damaging the dashboard. I tried to pry open but i can't fgure if there is a level or button you press to open the peice...and still can't figure out how to open the door speakers. By the way what are the sizes of all the speakers in a 94 e320 thanks

I replaced my dash speaker last year. Yes you can dent the dashboard and scratch the strip while prying, so you'll just have to be careful about it and not rush through the job. Once you get the grille assembly apart the speaker pops out and you'll know what size you need. I got an MB replacement speaker for $25.

To access the door speaker, the link below should walk you through most of the process.

I need door speaker info too

Hi. I am also in need of the instructions for removing a door speaker. Can someone e-mail them to me at "doubler213@aol.com" ? Thanks.

has anyone tried to install speakers in other locations?
On '86 300e, there are 4" and 5 1/4" speakers, and I think they are kind of small. Is there a way to put bigger speakers?
Thanks

replacing o.e. speakers

If one wants to keep the low fidelity of the o.e. system he should keep the awful tape radio and keep the o.e. speakers. If the desire is to have sound that matches the quality of the car, something Mercedes never considered, add CD (what the developed nations of the world have been listening to for twenty years) and aftermarket speakers (4' front, 5 1/4" rear). They are all coaxial and will provide much cleare sound. All aftermarket car audio is four ohms and matches. MB o.e. is not four ohms. There is no way to add larger speakers without using custom made door panel pods. P.

1994 E420
The front dash speakers in the 124s are 4.75 inch speakers. You can get some Rainbow Speakers or Blaupunkt speakers that are perfect drop-ins. Absolutely no modifications needed. Search the forums at www.mercedesshop.com for more details.

The rear speakers in my 94 E420 are the same as the front 4.75" speakers... but I have additional tweeters in the back.

Has anybody fitted 5 1/4 speakers in the stock dash locations?
