Engine reliability
Is the 300e 6 cyl. engine reliable ? I have an opportunity to purchase an 88 300e with the 6 cyl engine. Car is emaculate(?) . Has 180K miles and I am wondering if it is reliable enough to buy it and have life left in it. I have no experience with this engine. Any help appreciated .

MBUSA have mileage awards which owners often boast about on the forums. One is at 250,000 kms (@155k miles) and then there is the 500,000 kms (310l miles) badges given to vehicles with certified mileage.
They don't bother doing that if it doesn't happen regularly.
My 1988 300CE (3.0l I6 12V) has 221,000 kms on it and is strong as an ox !

Several years back, there was a feature article on this 500E where the owner clocked over 370,000km and still going strong (with proper maintenance and parts replacements, of course). He was still happy with his car and at the time he mentioned that he could not find a better car to replace it.

92 mercedes benz 500E,91 corvette ZR-1,90 mercedes benz 300CE AMG body pkg.
I sold my 92 500e with 280000 km on it and still running strong (sold it to a friend) then sold my second 1993 500 with 255000 MILES on it running super strong (sold it to my ex brother n law ... still running strong , has over 280 000 miles on it .
The 119 motors to me seems built proof.
