Considering a 95 E300 Diesel
I had to work yesterday and today, but my father was going to take it by the shop for an inspection. On the way, he noticed the tank was very low, so he added about $10. When he went to restart the car, it wouldn't start. He'd had trouble earlier (it had started for me the first time), so the guy at the car lot thought it was just him. When the guy (Craig) went to start it, he couldn't get it either. The air conditioning had also been out during the test drive, but they were going to fix it before we bought the car.
Now it is in a shop waiting on a valve for the A/C, with the ignition fixed. It was some kind of toggle that needed to be replaced.
The part will be in by 9 AM on Monday and hopefully the car will be fixed by noon so we can get it inspected.
Assuming the inspection goes well, I'm still planning on buying the car.
I was just wondering about everyone's thoughts here. My current car is a 93 Camry, so I don't have experience with a car like this. Does this seem like a good buy? I've always heard these cars last forever, and the same dealer sold an 80's 300D with 494,000 miles this week.
Change the oil often and do the recommended maintenance/repairs and it'll last a long, long time for you.
Sadly though, your old Camry is alot faster, but way less cool.
Got pix of it?
