Hello,

I am a newbie looking forward to buy a w124 250D; its a dream car for me. I did take a look at 4-5 cars and one did steal my heart.

The car is now owned by a mechanic. He does service these old and also new mercedes. Some detials about the car

1. W124 E250 D
2. 1 lac+ on the odo
3. Automatic Transmission
4. 1996 make (Tata Mercedes)
5. Silver exterior/black interior
6. All power windows working well
7. No warning light glowing on the odo

The day i saw the car with the owner of the garage (he is a friend of mine. i service my current car in his garage) i rushed to ask if he is willing to sell it and with gods grace he answered "YES". i took a test ride but the transmission was not smooth and the engine was too sluggish. Before i mentioned these issues to him, that guy told me that their is some fixes that need to be done(very confidently).
Except these to two things (which are major), the car is clean and ravishing.

Some what i diverted my mind and started looking for other options. One fine day the garage owner gave me a call and said the car is fixed and i can have a test drive. I wasn't much interested, but since he had given me a call i just went casually to have a look. The interior were polished (jet black), the body was shining. I cranked the engine and it didn't sound like a 16 years old diesel vehicle. The engine was smooth and silent. The curiosity increased, put the car in drive gear and the car started gliding over the road. No hick-ups in the transmission box, it was absolutely smooth. Surprisingly the vehicle was not sluggish.

I asked the owner how did this magic happen and he said he bought a full new transmission assembly and replace the old one.

I have tested the car on highway couple of time and don't find any problem in the mechanicals.

The car has stolen my heart. I just dream for her.

It would be great if experts on this forum can suggest me if i should go with this vehicle. Need help!!

We can't tell you to buy it or not.

However, it would behoove you to do the research on these cars weak points and make sure they have all been addressed.

I have inspected the below points

1. Wiring harness looks good
2. The body line is straight
3. No stains of rust
4. Suspensions are good
5. Break pads are also good
6. Engine bay is also in good shape

Please let me know i need to check any thing else apart form this.

 

Well, you say the body is great and he's fixed the major problems.

Yes, The AC is working fine

 

I took a look as well at quite a few of em around mumbai couldnt find anything that was jaw dropping bit the 1 common thing i noticed that and my father in law has the same issue on his 250 d as well was the under the boot cover there was quite a lot of rust and below the battery box he spent almost 40 k just to get that done or checked atleast
