Car won't rev past 4k (95 E420)

I have a 95 E420. I just fixed another problem which was ******* the car. The car was having trouble starting, and after a few diagnostics visits and a replaced computer I found a loose wire (doh!).

Anyways, now the car won't rev past 4000 rpms. It's as if the rev limiter is kicking in. I still have the replacement computer in (which was from a salvage shop) and I was going to swap that out just to see if it's maybe causing something. Other than that, I don't know where to start. It will not go past 4k. Not even a little. It hits 4k (in neutral even) and stops.

One other tidbit that might help. The loose wire causing my starting problem was the small wire coming off the battery terminal (not the main one) and I'm assuming it is for a few computers. I'm wondering if it could have been arcing and such?

Thanks.

If it will stop at 4K even in neutral than it is for sure your rev limiter, I don't know how to adjust it though. With you battery I think, don't know for sure, but think that it might be that the smaller wire goes directly to the starter and that might have been the problem.

I read it somewhere not long ago that if the control computer was replaced, or in this case "unpluged" then the replacement unit has to be reset to its values per car/motor type. This can only be done supposely by a competent equipped shop where they will plug in into your vehicle and type away. You may want to call the dealer ship and asked them if such. Also the replacement unit could have been bad or not programmed specifically for your vehicle.

Cheers...

I think you're 100% correct. My dealer was able to fix everything with a code reset. Thanks!
