1995 Mercedes E320
Shedding Real Tears over my Mercedes. Please help me-->

Okay, not really, but I'm about ready to burn this son of a ***** to the ground.

I have a '95 E320 Wagon that I bought for my wife as a 4th car. It ran rough on take off when I bought - chalked it up to a set of plugs. Seemed to moderately come out of it when engine is over 2k RPMs, but probably just spinning fast enough to seem like 6 cylinders.

New set of plugs - still runs rough.
Noticed the coil closest to the fire wall wasn't like the others..and also did a spark test to verify #6 is getting spark, #1 isn't. . like 1/2 the coil isn't working.

Bought a new coil - installed - still running exactly the same, still no spark on #1, but is on #6. . again like 1/2 the coil isn't working.

I know everyone that posts on every forum always says 'I've done the search and couldn't find anything', but I really have searched every possible search on Google, MB World, Benz World, Johnnys95E320misfires.com -and still nothing. I know about the plugs, coils, wires, harness, injectors and possibly crankshaft position sensor. . .

I'm asking if anyone has had a very similar situation and a remedy for it. Otherwise, the check the FS section in a few days for a ****ing part out of this thing. /rant

Clearly, the coil is making spark, but it isn't traveling to cylinder #1 to fire the spark plug. The connection on the coil must be shot, try swapping this new coil with the other that is working and see if the problem follows the coil.

Even though the old coil and brand new coil are doing the exact same thing, I will try one of the two proven to produce spark out of both outlets in the morning. Great suggestion.

Since it's a 1995, has the wiring harness been replaced? Inspect the wiring near the various connectors for signs of the infamous eco-deterioration. A bad harness can cause all manner of really strange problems.

Just speculating, but a short circuit in the No 1 injector circuit could cause the ECU to shut down all signals - including the coil signal - to cylinder No 1 as a protective measure to preserve the ECU drive circuitry. Swapping the known good coils is the best test, but I think you will find that the known good coil does the same the thing.

Since you have an M-104 HFM-FI, I would suggest checking the ECU error codes as well. Search this board for how to make a cheap (under ten bucks) reader and read the codes.
