'86 300E CPS location???

I've been trying to find the CPS on my '86 300E and can't locate it anywhere. I've removed the oil filter as recommended but it isn't any place I can see it. The car stalled out over the weekend and the tach isn't moving when I crank it so I'm assuming the CPS died.

WHERE IS THE DARN THING? CAN SOMEONE POST A PIC OF IT??

Thanks in advance!

Crank sensor is on the transmission housing, above the flywheel and torque converter, behind the head, down the valley and past the creek,, as in buried deep.

Instead of removing it, try testing its resistance at the plug. It is quite likely not the sensor...

The tach might not move until it's running. Check relays, temp sensor and ovp.

CPS Location

If you were looking at the bell housing from the front, the CPS is located @ approx the 1 o clock position. It is secured to the bell housing by a single bolt and reads a pick-up on the flywheel. There is a coax type cable that runs from the sensor to the ignition control module (EZL) on the inner left fender, behind the ABS pump.

Pull the connection from the EZL and test the resistance with a meter. You need at least 820 ohms showing to indicate the sensor is good. If it is bad, the easiest access for replacing it is from under the car.

Have you checked for fire at the plugs? Checked the condition of the cap/rotor? Fuel pressure/pumps?

Good Luck,

Jayare
