320CE 1994 purchase
hello all, am looking into buying a 320CE 1994 with 95k miles. i have test driven the car, and it sounds quite smooth - no rattling, no rough engine. however, seller cannot furnish previous repair records and can't be sure if all the wire harnesses had been replaced, and whether the timing chain issues were already resolved.
on account of the smooth running of the car, can i assume that those issues have been properly dealt with? or do you guys think i really should get a pre-purchase checkup?
my alternative is a 500SEL 1987 with 60k miles. also very smooth. advice on choice?
many thanks. joseph

Hey Joseph
Irrespective of whether it seems to drive smoothly - always - always apply Murphy's Law.
If it can go wrong it will go wrong.
A pre-purchase examination should reveal whether the wiring harness has been done and make no mistake the fix is expensive but well worth it if the rest of the car is in good running order.
You are looking at one of the most over-engineered cars in history and there are countless little things that could go wrong.
On saying that though you are looking at buying one of the most satisfying vehicles on the road. And the 320CE is a relatively short lived model designator before the transition to the E320 model.
Good Luck and keep us appraised of what happens !
