I picked up my new 95 E320 Cab from Salt Lake City and drove it home to SoCal (705) miles. The car has 139,000 miles. It made it fine except for when I used the cruise control about 100 miles from SLC and the ASR light came on and it went into limp home mode. It was 39 degrees out in the middle of nowhere. I turned the car off and back on, and all was good all the way home. (sorry - side story).
Anyway, it failed the CA smog check. HCs were 148 (max is 100). I found CRC fuel treatment that claimed it was guaranteed to pass smog if the catalytic was ok. The guarantee was double the purchase price back if you failed.
Directions were to add the 12 oz bottle to a tank of gas and run through it. Then refill and go get it tested.
Well it passed
. The shocker was the HCs went down to 11 (yes, eleven).
This stuff works.
In all fairness, I did change the air filter (OEM).
Just wanted to pass this on.
