black smoke on acceleration
I'm guessing its fuel related (the valve seals are worn - it smokes on a long compression run down a hill and you hit the gas at the bottom, but that's a light grey / blue smoke) given the colour.
It might be injectors, but other than pulling them all - is there anything else i should check? could check?
cheers. Andrew
Not sure of your engine but assume M103-12V.
Valve seal is oil hence grey/blue smoke.
Black smoke is indicative of an overly rich mixture.
Start with the basics and remove your spark plugs noting condition, color and if dry or wet.
This will give you an immediate answer to what is happening in each cylinder.

Valve seals are the winter job (maybe - might end up pulling the head as well and checking everything as well as doing the timing chain and tensioners - they were replaced 120K km ago - seems about time to do them again).

"Reading" spark plug condition still applies regardless of engine...
Early M104 plugs are a bit easier to get to then the M103.
Most don't consider the "old school" importance of plug condition.
It's the only way to attempt to isolate what cylinder(s) you're having problems with.
You want to diagnosis and correct the problem before you install new plugs.
Can be something basic as a high tension lead or a plug fouled with oil from the valve guides and not firing.
Better to install a hotter heat range plug that has a better chance of firing if this is the case !
