500E - ASR comes on and car wont accelerate

Sure this has been discussed before - sorry. New to the Forum.

1992 500E - while driving ASR light comes on and engine drops to idle and wont accelerate.

How do I tell if its electrical or the Throttle Actuator or something else.

Many thanks!

I've done a bit more research. My mechanic mentioned my battery was getting old. Sounds like an old battery may not allow for the proper voltage to be established in the system and inhibit the ASR relay to operate properly. Perhaps I should change the battery and go from there?

Thanks for your help.

I had an intermittent ASR issue with my '93 400E. I pulled the ASR module out and cleaned the contacts on it and had no issues for the rest of the time I owned it.

Thanks Paul - I have the battery on the charger tonight. Thought I would get it nice and full up and see if that takes care of things in the morning.

If that doesn't do it I'll try the proven take out, clean replace
