Replacement door lock

Ages ago someone broke a key off in my passenger front door lock. I ordered a replacement lock, as no one could extract the remains. The new lock was not the same key pattern as the rest of the locks on the car.
I got some keys made, and sent one to my (not very nearby) MB dealer, for them to send to Germany to get a lock to fit.
Yesterday I spent half a day taking the car to them etc, only to be told that once again they'd got a non-matching lock. Leaving aside their failure to check my key in it before inviting me to take the car in...
And Daimler-Chrysler's failure to maintain a record of the locks they have to have sold, if, as they claim, all the locks have been replaced...

Surely the factory have the means to determine the lock number by reference to a key (although my dealer says they deny this)?

What should I do?
