E500/500E prices

hi all,

i'm curious everyone's opinion on why these cars have not held up better in value vs other collectibles as i'm a fan of these cars and looking to buy one. while i realize that they won't drive as fast as the newer AMGs, they are hand-made classics and now already 20 yrs old. overall, they appear to depreciate much like regular MBs (and even older bmw M-series)...but imho, they should not be.
p.s. i guess w/ over 4,000 units over 3 yrs, perhaps they are still not that rare?

Check Hagerty website for idea of auction value. Prices have increased and now exceed prices of 20 yr old SL's. Still a bargain in my view.

Only 1,505 were imported to the states over their model run of 1992-94.

Figure on 1/3 gone and another 1/3 poorly maintained.

10,374 cars over 5 years worldwide...not exactly low volume production collectables.

The good ones with low miles will always be worth top $$. Seems like 20-25 grand gets you a very nice one with under 80K miles....the trick is to find the low mile one before someone else does; a lot of folks looking to get into the good ones these days.

World production does not apply if were discussing values in the USA. Since USA production was 1505, figure in the loss for totaled cars and we have very few left. The majority of the 1505 were silver and black, so if you have one of the alternate colors, you have a very rare car.
