Transmission Problem
I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT TRANSMISSIONS, I HAVE NOTICED MINE WILL NOT SHIFT INTO THIRD GEAR AFTER THE ENGINE AND TRANS ARE HOT. TRANS SHIFTS FINE FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES OR SO, BUT AFTER THAT, IT'S STUCK IN SECOND. I CAN FEEL IT ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT INTO THIRD ON THE HIGHWAY. FLUID LOOKS AND SMELLS FINE, ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS?
Hi.....get in touch with Mario at Independent Transmission Service in Miami. (305) 666-3544. I have a 94 E320 that had a "flair" from 2nd to 3rd that all the "experts" (mercedes and jobbers) said meant I needed a transmission re-build. NOT...the problem was solved (it is a known problem) with a little bit of elbow grease and a couple of springs supplied by Marion with instructions. He'll be able to help you. Good luck.

THANKS....I WILL CALL HIM TOMORROW, I REALLY DON'T WANT TO REBUILD IF I CAN KEEP FROM IT. I DON'T MIND THE WORK, ITS THE MONEY, I WOULD LIKE TO SPEND IT OTHER THINGS. I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHAT HE SAYS.

I also had this problem with my '87 300E, the resolution was to change the fluid and filter, TWICE! Apparently, whomever had the car before me, just changed the fluid, which allowed gunk to collect in the trans. The filter was brown when I took it out the first and second times (about 2 months apart). I just recently changed it again as part of replacing the front pump seal and it was red from the fluid. At 178k miles, it still shifts great!
Sounds like Brian has the hookup for you though, a good MB trans mechanic is someone who deserves your money.
