i want to replace them (my car is a sportline) and almost all the part shops are telling me tat they are the same.

Thanks

They are not the same. Standard Sportline fitting is a Sachs unit but people say the equivalent Bilstein in the B6.

MB refs are:

Front: A1243206030
Rear: A1243262700

My Sportline has a Bilstein B12 spring/damper kit that includes Bilstein B8 dampers.

My feeling is that standard Sportline springs would be OK with B8s and that is what I'd like to try because the Bilstein (H&R) springs make things a bit too low for my liking.

Maybe others will comment?

My advice would be to consult Bilstein and Sachs stockists directly and interrogate them to make sure they understand that Sportline is different. I quote the MB parts catalogue, "ONLY APPLICABLE TO VEHICLES WITH SPORTS UNDERCARRIAGE". They should know.

Bonne chance.
