Yes, the 1992 300CE has the 104.980 motor and KE Jetronic FI. This was the last year for the 104.980 in the CE, in 1993 MB went to the 104.992 engine and LH Jetronic FI.

Yes. My car has the 104.980 motor. If KE-Jetronic and CIS-E isn´t the same thing, then I believe it´s the KE-Jetronic. And if I´m not mistaken, it´s KE-Jetronic 3. There are versions from 1 to 5, at least. According to my Bosch fuel injection manual.
-But how do I then retrieve the codes using a pulse counter..? Since I don´t have any LED or any button. Can´t find anything about that in my books.

OK thanks. One thing though. -Are you talking about the nine pin connector or about the 38 pin connector, which is only in more recent cars? Cars with the 38 pin connector have digital wiring, but those that don´t have it are analog.
My car does not have the 38 pin connector, only the 9 pin connector and then the black one with the white numbers from 1 to 16.

The codes are retrieved via the diagnostic connector X11/4, which is near the pass. side firewall. It has 16 pins.

The KE-Jetronic manual (from the MB service literature) for the M103 has the fault codes. Even though the 300CE has the M104, I can't imagine the FI systems being any different.

The round 9-pin connector is for reading the on/off ratio (lambda control). This is useful for setting the mixture and for fault diagnosis. You don't need the special lambda tool; you can use a multimeter on the duty cycle setting.

The codes can be read using a pulse counter or a shop-made tool using an LED, some wires, and banana plugs. I have made a schematic for one. If I find it I'll post it.
