I'm looking at replacing a cashed out '83 300sd, wife doesn't like driving such a big car anyway so I'm looking at a somewhat newer E class 124, between '90 and '95 likely.

There's a few E300s around at reasonable prices, and one E400, a '92. The E400 has been better maintained than any of the 300s - has all service records from a local Mercedes specialist. Any info on the V8 vs the inline 6's would be appreciated though. I'm familiar with the inline 6 gas and the inline 5 diesel engines, not with the V8s. How do they hold up compared to the inline engines? The car has 160k miles on it.
