Squeaky noise from radiator fan

i've recently started noticing a squeaky noise from my rad fan. The car is a 1993 400E. I had the mechanic look at it, he told me the fan was alright, the belt is in very good condition. I'm wondering if this is something where I can use WD40. Not too sure if I should use WD40 in case it gets onto the belt. Suggestions are welcomed. Besides that the car is fine.

If the squeaking is comimg from the belt then the belt it not tight enough, and needs tightening. You can check this bý spraying water on the running belt. The noise should be changing or disappearing. If the water does not change anything the it may be a fan bearing.

Fan belt broke

On my way home today, I noticed all my warning lamps suddenly light up. I couldn't figure out what it meant. I also started to see the temperature guage rise too. Luckily I was close to my home, after stopping the car, I looked under the hood, to find a shredded belt. I haven't been able to figure out what failed on the car as of yet. I assume the clicking noise I was hearing was an indication of something was failing.

If the mechanic checked the belt and told it's okay, and no it's shredded he did not look at it!!!!!!
A belt normally does not fall apart from good condition to shred in a few days.
The cause of the prblem may heve been the belt tensioner, which causes a loose belt, and then the belt may getting cuts from jumping on the pulleys, and then goes to shred. Hope you did not drive for too long since w/o the belt the water pump (temp gauge), the generator (all the indicating lights show), and some more will not operate any more. Check the manual, where you can find the belt routing diagram.
