what kind of sensor could kill the engine

The 300e I just bought has a bad sensor that keeps the engine from running have any of yall had that problem and know what it might be

check the simple stuff first---crank position sensor--other than that what faults if any are you getting???

All I was told was the old man that owned it was driving it and it cut out and wouldn't crank back up, and a mechanic said it was a sensor. Im going over it Saturday, and have an obd1 scanner available. Thanks Plutoe
