400E tensioner pulley

I recently had to have my tensioner pulley repaired. For the past 2 months or more, my car would sometimes produce a squeaking after driving for awhile. Last Sunday, the tensioner pulley finally let go, it chewedd my belt in the process. I was wondering if this a common problem with MB. The real kicker is I told my mechanic to check my belt the last time i was in the shop. He dismissed the problem as being the fan possibly wearing out. After the belt broke, i waited for the car to cool down, i was able to check all 6 -7 pulleys until I came across a pulley that was shaking. I moved the pulley a little more, until finally it came right off.
