W124 Coupe Wheel Fitting

Hey guys

Looking at getting some new alloys for my 320ce and have found some 17x7.5s, likely off a clk of some sort, so probably with an offset of 37. Checking the wheel fitment guide stickied above, that says I should have 17x7.5s with an offset of 42.

Tires that come with the new alloys would be 215/45/x17.

Does anyone know if that 5mm difference is going to be a major issue?

Hello theonefreeman1,
It is not only a fitting problem, because some wheel dimensions may perfectly fit your car most of the time.
But the only thing I know for sure, is that if you are involved in an accident and declared responsible or not and if your tires are not the in compliance with the "authorized" ones, your insurance may not accept to cover your damages. You may even be sued by the other party. So just be very careful with the wheel you choose and adapt the tire dimension to the wheel ones. Tires is what they check first, just to see if they are OK or worn out.

Also, if your overall wheel is larger or smaller, this may affect your tachometer precision leading you to read false real speed, especially in our Mercedes that have a rather precise tachometer...

Good luck with your search.
