Block heater for 260

Anyone here ever installed a block heater on a 124? I want to get one for my 260. Any difficulty in removing the freeze plug and keeping the opening sealed?

Jer!

I have installed them on 3.0L diesel MBs before, the real trick is finding the right size allen wrench (it was 45mm on the diesel motors) and about 3-4 feet of black iron pipe to use as a lever. It is not really hard, just a brute force thingy. As for sealing it, I just used permatex on the threads when I installed the heater.

45mm!!! I had difficulty looking for a 14mm for the differential!! Where did you find your 45mm wrench?

Jer,

I think we had discussed this before but I cannot find it in the archives, pehaps it was lost during the "outage" a few months back. I bought my set of Allen wrenches from WW Grainger and have used one or two of them every year since I got them, 10 years ago, so it has been worth the money. I think it would be best to search the manual for the size of the wrench required for the plug unless you want to buy a whole set. If you do want to buy a set, or just the right one I am glad to help you procure it, since you do not have access to Grainger.

I remember talking about Grainger awhile back, but didn't think about it as I can't purchase things from them. If my MB mechanic can do it for a few bucks, I'll just have them do it and save myself the trouble. Otherwise, I'll get the wrenches from Grainger, Thanks, D!
