Fair price for a w124 Wagon
Hey Guys.
I've been lurking on the forum for some time. I've also been looking for a 94-95 e320 estate. About 8 years ago, you could get a decent one for under 3k. Now, examples like this, people want a lot more. What is the most you'd pay for this one? How about the most for any decent one?
Keep in mind, I'm thinking a really clean, 150k-ish mile, Gas car.

Out Of Control!!
I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole, a ***** to diagnose and then the every day wrench would look at a W124 and say WTFIT---so that leaves you weekend ***** to try and fix the car---now a 1,000 car quickly turns into a 4000 car---focus on a W211 diesel!!

The days of good cheap 124k wagons have passed and the law of supply and demand are taking hold with these cars are nearing that magical 20 year end of production mark and prices start climbing.
Price is on the high side but the mileage isn't too bad, the car looks in decent shape, and the transmission has been replaced. I would find out if the replacement was a rebuilt or junkyard replacement. If rebuilt $5000-$5500 would be my top price. Love the color combo though - blue and tan and the seats look to be covered in MB TEX - indestructable.
If you're looking for another $3K wagon move up to the W211 - better driving cars apart from the rust problem they had which is not likely to be a issue in Texas.

Needed replacement parts as follows;
* - Upper engine Wire Harness
* - Lower Engine Wire Harness
* - ETA wire replaced, or new ETA
* - A/C Evaporator
* - Head Gasket
* - Transmission rebuilt
The Wire harness replacement is needed because the 95's had junk wire insulation which cracks and disintegrates when exposed to engine bay heat. The wire harnesses eventually short out.
The A/C Evaporator will develop a leak because the factor parts mixed copper and aluminum. You need to pull the complete dash out of the car to replace the Evaporator with an all aluminum replacement, a $2K job easily.
All factor M104 engines need a head gasket change sooner or later before 125,000 to 150,000 miles, another expensive job
All transmissions will need rebuild at some point after 150K miles plus or minus, depending upon care and how it is driven.
If you find a 95 124 wagon with all these things already fixed, your not getting it for $3,000. The work described above is worth $7,000 or more.
I would guess a well sorted out 1995 wagon with everything fixed is worth about $7000 assuming excellent condition of paint and interior.
I bought my wife a low mileage E500 that spent it's live in Cal., they can have their own gremlins, but it's a much nicer and newer car than a 124.
As everyone here always says, don't buy a cheap Mercedes, buy one that has excellent maint records and in top condition for a higher price, it's worth it in the long run.
