I'm looking to purchase a CLEAN '93-'95 400E/E420. Looking for a car with a documented maintenance history and less than 140K miles.

Please PM me if you have one or know of one for sale.

Have all the wire harnesses been replaced yet? All three of them need to be replaced if they are still factory wire bundles.

Really two harnesses plus the wiring in the ETA.

Upper engine harness still available from dealer.

Of importance is the lower (Starter/Alternator) harness, as it's NLA anywhere. Needs a custom rebuild, even the connectors are NLA and the old ones need to be reused.

The ETA either needs to be replaced with a 2000 build or later, (a $2000 plus part I think), or like the lower harness, a tech need to take the bad one apart and replace all the bad wire.

Most folks who own these cars are familiar with the insulation problems in the engine harness, but most don't replace all three items, and they all need to be done. All three will go bad and short out eventually.

I have 3 124's, the 92 CE wire is all good from the factory, but my 92 500E & 94 E420 had to have all of the above done. I have the lower harness for my e420, as I purchased it when it was still in stock, just got to install it one of these days.

If I didn't already have these 124's I'd be looking at yours, the colors sound great... GLWS

thanks for the info. i'm aware of the wiring harness issues. over the years, i've had my mechanic check on this and no issues. i've read that not all of them had the harnesses with issues. perhaps, and i emphasize perhaps, since mine is from the last year of production, perhaps they were already aware of the issue or perhaps they were replaced early on by the original owner. tj
