driverside key tumbler removal

Hello, I thought to have posted this previously but probably did it wrong so I think it got lost ... since I may be doing this wrong again relative to Forum Procedures, would a coordinator please put my message for me into the correct space instead of just deleting it, I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Due to years of wear in the lock on the driver-side of my 1991 300E 4Matic, the key does not turn to lock the car. I would like to remove the locking cylinder assembly for servicing.
The MB Removal and Installation procedure 72-240 obviously does not apply, since it is important for removal that the key be turned about 60 degrees to the right. But, the inability to do that is the reason in the first place, why I have to find another way to get the locking cylinder out of there.

Can somebody please tell me what all of the locking assembly in the door will have to be removed in order to get the locking cylinder out?

A Mercedes fan since early '50ies.

Thank you for your help,

d-lreeh

This is what i did . Remove the tumbler and with the key in place you will see high segments of the tumbler, these need to be made level .After you clean it out first . Hope this is of some use . I did mine ,the driver side was the worst out of the two . I will pm you a manual .Look under doors section.

Thank you optimusprime m1 for your advise. I will follow this as soon as I can remove the key tumbler assembly from the door. Its stuck because I cannot at this point turn the key as required by by maintenance manual section 72-240.
Also thank you for the very helpful pictorial about the 'filing and shaping' of the tumbler assembly.

I had the same problem. Needed to remove the drivers lock but key wouldnt turn into the 60 degree position required. Instead I had to disassemble from inside the door so I could twist the handle into position. It worked, finally. Not easy but doable. Disconnect anything that keeps the handle from turning. It will require clever use of tools and persistence. It was 3 or 4 years ago so I don't recall the specifics anymore. Hope this helps.
