A/C Compressor Noise

A/C Compressor Noise
The 92 300E I purchased last year with 35K miles had been converted to R134A fourteen years ago at 15,000 miles. Recharged at 19,000 miles.
The compressor failed and was replaced in 2007 at 23,000 miles. Work was done at an indy shop that specializes in Mercedes. Recharged 2010 at 29,000 miles, 2012 at 32,000 miles, 2014 at 34,000 miles. Records state "tighten fittings and schreader valves". I recharged 2015 at 36,000 miles. I assumed that the previous owner did not turn on the A/C periodically in the winter. Now at 42,000 miles the compressor is very noisy when turned on. I do not know how the conversion was done or what was done at the time the compressor was replaced.
How likely is the possibility of compressor failure and possible freeze up and the power belt being destroyed? My understanding that new compressors come with R134 oil. Not sure if replacement compressors 9 years ago would have had R12 or R134 oil.
What do you recommend at this point in time?

Out Of Control!!
Who knows an answer for the freeze up\belt issue. All I know, if it were me I would replace the compressor or at least confirm if mine had a clutch or not(use EPC for that or post the VIN)
Nine years ago compressors had pal oil(R134)
