The owner claims everything works. But has this in description "the transmission does not slip and shifts fine through all gears but shifts a bit hard sometimes into overdrive" what could that be? Also any other recomendations on stuff to look for. Car has 168k.
Thanks.

It is clearly a "Don't say you weren't warned" notice. Mercedes transmission is quite durable and rarely fails at such mileage. The description is probably an under-statement of gearbox failure which the seller must have investigated and obtained an estimate of repair before deciding to give up the car and let the buyer deal with it. Why not look at another?

Well I bought it. I payed $1,900 for it and is in overall great shape. I'll look into the intermitent hard feeling shift to 4th later. It feels like a bad tranny or diff mount. Anyways if I end up having to fix tranny it's still a cheap car.

Wheels alone are worth half I think.. Paid $1,900

Is that normal oil pressure at Idle?

Wish you had conducted all the basic checks for buying a used car. Just some quick observations from the pictures you posted:
(1) The wheels do not match a classic S124 well, and the ride height is a bit tall. Was the spring set new and not yet settled or did the previous owner replace it with a non-TE version or universal set?
(2) The oil pressure reading seems quite high when the engine speed is down to 500 rpm. Does it always idle in neutral around 500 rpm? It is clearly too low. Have you checked the air filter?
(3) The external temperature gauge on the instrument cluster is showing 188F and may be faulty.
(4) How soon did the coolant temperature rise to 95C after starting? Suggest you observe whether the cooling fans work and at what temperature.
(5) Body looks in good shape - not sure about the under-side, hopefully the car spent its life largely in the southern states and free from snow and salt.
(6) The interior clearly shows the car's age and usage. The cleanliness of the cabin, and the conditions of the seats, wood trim and the rear compartment clearly reflect the level of care by its previous owner(s).

However, the most important thing is you like the car and consider the price a good bargain. The TE is great to ride with kids, pets, heavy shopping and occasional load at the back. Suggest you give the car a thorough check-up by the professionals and service and start enjoying your new love.

1995 E320 wagon
Questionable shifting into overdrive.

I was expierencing a simular problem. It ended up being the accumulators.
But then again my 124 is a 95 E320 wagon with Self Leveling System.

Just found a good explanation of the Self-Leveling System and the role of accumulators here.
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...ng-system.html
Failure of the accumulators or other parts in the SLS might explain why the wagon in the picture is standing so tall even without load, but how does it affect shifting to overdrive?

I had couple of those 4-sp with hard shifting and in my case it was disconnected vacuum.
On one car the rubber coupling on the end of plastic tubing entering the transmission deteriorated and the results in shifting made dentist smile.
The wheels are AMG monobloks.
Not the old classic, but I think 1990's era.
Not that bad wagon for $1900.
Would that be a diesel, it would keep the value for next 20 years.

yep, not a huge fan on how they look. Might swap or sell and get period correct wheels.

not bad. Has some minor details to take care off. It's a e320 gas.
