Angry 124 instrument lighting

In another post I mentioned my lighting problem. I've chased down fuses, etc... it looks like all fuses are good in the main compartment.

I have now taken out the cluster on my 1988 300e limo. It looks interesting back there. I have several Euro cars, and this one has the same semi-hack-job DOT conversion-looking stuff in there as my '81 280ce. I replaced several missing (!) warning bulbs, and pulled the rheostat. -- I cleaned it and replaced everything, but I still have no light! VERY strange, the rheostat trick worked great on the 280ce. is there another hidden fuse in there someplace??

all the bulbs look fine. as a test, I attached 12 volts to the positive lead on the shifter lamp socket.. and voila, all the dash lights ( and warning buzzer) came on! hmmmm... bad switch? maybe another bad fuse someplace else?

I need a bit of help chasing this problem down... i'd love to hear some suggestions.. the MB124 cd roms dont help very much..

Perhaps the headlamp switch is defective? Check the electrical schematics for the pin assignments, and short the appropriate pins for parking lamps and headlamps ON.
