HELP. I have a grinding noise coming from the rear of my E320 95
replaced brake pads,
replaced rotors,
new emergency brake pads,
changed the bearings,
changed the axel,
changed the bushings,
changed differential mounts and oil,
new tranny mounts,
new center bearing drive shaft,
new flex disc both front and rear,
and still this hateful grinding noise haunts me.

The car has 161K miles, never wrecked, i am the second owner. Prior owner was a Mechanic and took really good care of her. Please help, anyone. Please.
the noise sounds like brakes grinding, metal to metal. caliper on rotor yet the rotors and calipers are fine and no wear on the brakes.
any further thoughts come to mind?
I have same grinding sound when I brake abruptly (when braking slowly at a lower speed sound does not appear). Also when I back up the sound comes on.
Same wise like you I have changed the brake pads but the sound is still there. Took it the mechanic, he said that that this is differential problem. A few words about the car: it is pretty neatly maintained, but has some moderate amount of rust underneath, for instance when I jack the rear to do some work (brake/tire) the central core of the frontal bushing separates from the whole part. I assume probably other rubber parts/rear bushing are degrading and may contribute to the problem.
Please let me know if you were able to find and fix the problem.
Good luck and kind regards!
