AMG Hammer

Sorry to all who may have read the same message on other forums.

I've just purchased an AMG Hammer, manufactured in 1986. Its right hand drive and was supplied new in the UK.

Car is fitted with a 5.0 or 5.6 V8 with AMG quad cam heads.

Theres not much information on Hammers on the web, they are a rare car, with just 13 W124 Coupe's being made (most ending up in the US) and maybe less saloon's/sedans......mines a saloon.

The car is a non runner at the moment as it needs a new engine block.

Has anybody out there got information on the Hammer and even better has anybody actually worked on one.

All help and information would be gratefully received.

Well done for getting the car mate.... I couldnt help but notice that there was quite a lot of interest in the car over the last 48 hours.

Can't help on the engine although I have seen a Kleeman W201 with the same 5.0L engine setup.

He he.... I think I may have had something to do with that!
I would have loved to have owned this car.
mjtray beat me to it.
All the best trying to repair it. If it all goes back together you'll have one fantastic car

Kleemann got the 4cam 5.0 to fit in a 190E?? Must have taken some pounding on the engine bay. Sure it wasn't just a 2cam 5.0?

You may be right... I have a photo of the engine somewhere so I'll see if I can dig it out and post it...

From recollection however it does look very similar to the one in mjtray's new toy.

Oh yeah, the Carlsson 190E 500. Kind of a peice... Its not been taken care of as displayed by the engine bay pics. It is for sale last I saw for 4000 Euros or so. I read the post you copied and its true, its no heavier than the factory 190E's iron block. I used to own a 190E with a 380 V8 out of an SL. Same block basically as the 500 and the front end actually sat higher than with the original 190 engine until I cut the springs. With a 500E swaybar it actually handled pretty well.
