So long story short, I just bought a 1990 300E for $600. It had been sitting at a mechanics shop for a while because someone snuck in and cut off/stole the catalytic converter from underneath. And it’s been sitting for a year or so since then. They just wanted it gone.

Its blue/black metallic with that strange blue leather interior, 190k miles but runs like its new (other than the missing cat ha). The exterior is in excellent shape and there’s not a single spot of rust underneath. Even with the tires being a bit low (tires have full tread also) the handling is reasonably tight, no slop that feels like worn out bushings or shocks. The only issue is the passenger side window won’t roll up, so I’m fixing that probably tomorrow after work. I also found the factory maintenance booklet in the glove box, all filled out for the first half of its life!

The battery was dead after sitting for more than a year and the gas was junk, but with a jump it started right up and still runs smoothly. I’ve always been a BMW guy but I guess now I get to try the other side! I plan on using this as my daily driver while I let my ‘12 Mustang GT accumulate mods and creep up to 500RWHP. The Benz will mostly just be getting fixed up, a new cat, the aftermarket stereo sorted out a little better, and a tune up. After the cat I may do some form of performance exhaust, if nothing else because I love the sound of a straight 6. Window tint will be a definite, and I think I’ve convinced my wife to let me put some good shocks on it and take her autocrossing once or twice. Maybe some 17” AMG rims if I find a good deal. Or something in a 16" with the centers painted to match the car, but a polished lip. Mmmmmmmmmm

Anyways, sorry for the novel. I have a lot of reading to do in here.

Also, in regards to my passenger side window not rolling up - is there any way to tell if it's the switch or the motor? It would be nice to know before I start tearing things apart.

Edit: searched around and I think I found the problem: It's not clicking when I press the button so it may be the switch. I just ordered one for $5 so that should be an easy fix. I'll pop the driver's side switch in there today to see if it rolls up.

SWEET. Looks like you got a great car for a great price.

I am looking at a 1994 E320, always loved the W124 platform.

that's a steal if all things are in decent shape - expect to run through a couple thousand in deferred maintenance but sounds like you're handy so that's parts and time. I'm in the market for a long term 124 Coupe.
