both seat belt presenters are non functional, they do not make any noise and may be disconnected somewhere. Appreciate any help re this issue. Thanks RMHC

Check your fuses, in particular fuses 1, 9, and C. Check for corrosion by removing each fuse and inspecting the ends. W124s with their Bosch bullet style fuses are notorious for corrosion related problems. If you have not done so, you should update your fuses to the all copper Flosser type fuses to avoid any corrosion issues going forward.

Hi Floobydust,
Thanks for the reply. I have checked the fuses and they are all OK. I have recently acquired this car and it is in good condition generally, low mileage and well taken care of. Both presenters are dead and so I suspect a problem related to the power feed. Have not been able to find much info such as a wiring diagram. I have not yet removed the panels bbelow the units which presumably give access to the mechanism. I would appreciate any help you may be able to provide. Many thanks, RMHC.

Here is a link to a later year Coupe schematic which may still be relevant for you. http://www.autolib.diakom.ru/CAR/Mer...NG%20DIAGRAMS/
The left and right seat belt extenders are essentially independent systems so it would be odd for both modules to fail. This is why I suspected the fuses (e.g., the power supply) as the root of the problem.
