1991 E300 Temp Gauge acting wierd

1991 E300 Temp Gauge acting wierd
So my temp gauge once in awhile spikes past the 120 red line.
If I tap the gauge it drops back to normal temp.
The car is not over heating....and by going to normal when tapped tells my its probably a gauge issue and not an actual temp issue.
I guess the guy I bought it from says there is a ground wire for gauge that needs cleaned.
He said it is a common issue, but I cant find anything that talks about it on google search.
Any ideas or help would be great.

Hello Low-N-Slow, When I purchased my 1990 300E, I did a lot of research before I bought it because it's my first German vehicle. My odometer did not work when I bought it which is common on Mercedes this old. I ended up sending it out to "Overseas Speedometer" (http://www.speedometer.com/index.html) to get it fixed. They not only repaired the odometer but they refreshed the detailing on the face plate and calibrated the speedometer for $175. I actually found out about these guys from a channel on Youtube called Mercedes Source, they also have their own webpage (http://www.MercedesSource.com)

The video is not on Youtube. It's purchasable on his website (MercedesSource.com) or you get the video for free with purchase of the Cluster removal tools he sells which are designed much better than anything else on the market.
