Today my 722.414 auto transmission started making a weird noise! It's a w124 250TD 1993
I jacked up the rear end of the car and put the shifter in D, without any gas it runs fine (no noise) but as soon as the engine gets up to around ~1500rpm the transmission starts "ticking", or it's more like a "tack-tack-tack-tack", it's coming from the rear end of the transmission and goes away when idle again, I suppose as the gearbox downshifts.. it shifts up and down just fine
I can also reproduce this if I quickly rev up to around 1500RPM and release the pedal it'll make this noise even at idle, not sure if it has down shifted at this point but the tacking noise is sitll there, it will eventually go away if I don't touch the pedal
I found this video on youtube: at 3:00 minutes into the video he describes the noise very well and tells me it's the secondary oil pump in the transmission, but afaik the 93 models didn't have a secondary oil pump? But if it does, I also read that you can disable the secondary pump, but I'm not sure how to proceed with that?
The transmission was working very well before this, shifting fine with no slips
Thanks in advance

After a lot of tinkering, pondering and head scratching, we've concluded that the noise is coming from the parking brake pawl, for a still unknown reason, the pawl is hitting the parking brake gear
