Low/rough idle, but only when it's HOT outside.
My wife's w124 (94 e320 wagon) has started acting erratically. Lately, I went through the whole car and changed: wiring harness, coils, plugs, wires, valve gasket, O2 sensor, water pump, MAS, you name it. The car was running like a top afterwards for months.
Lately here in Texas, we've been having crazy mad temperatures. It was 110 degrees yesterday!
Also lately, I've noticed that the hotter it is outside (past around 90 degrees), the worse this car runs for the first minute or so when it starts up. It idles at 500rpm, like it thinks that it's already warmed up. Now, even stranger, typically when the A/C is turned on, it should raise the RPM, but when I do so, it lowers even further, causing car to stall. When car finally warms up, it runs at 1200 RPM with A/C off, and 650 with AC on. Definitely a little off!
On cool days and mornings, I have ZERO issues. It's like nothing ever happened.
My thought immediately went to my old Volvos. Coolant Temperature Sensor. Although on those, I was forced to crank and crank until it started. This e320 starts up right away.
What do y'all think? Am I on the right track? Is there something else that sticks out to you folks that I should check?
Many thanks!!
