Cam swap weird timing issue (runs fine)

89 300TE. Just got done putting m103 back together, new cam, head etc. I installed cam according to manual, but wouldn't run (no valve interference). Started looking at rotor position for #1 at TDC (verified balancer mark to real TDC) and #1 was pointing at #3 normal wire position. Wish I hadn't tossed my old cam bracket but did verify that the new cam matched old cam profile and quadruple checked my cam/crank marks which were spot on. So I figured that the dealer rotor bracket was somehow different and advanced my cap wiring two positions and it runs excellent near as I can tell, so far. Anyone run into this before? Thanks.
