BIG TIME Hesitation...

My Carb engine has hesitation BIG TIME when the engine has not warm up sufficiently moving from stand still.

And this is getting on my nerve when I desperately need the power to turn at junction.

I can floor the pedal completely and the engine only responded after 2 sec!! And after that, it takes it own sweet time to roll off till 3,000 RPM it turns into a rocket...

Ditto!! I have something in my book here that says after the car works in over time, the hesitation and stalling on cold start up occurs. To remedy this, adjust the fuel distributor lower chamber pressure to 0.45 bar (6.5 psi) instead of 0.4 bar (5.8 psi) and these symptoms disappear. You will need a CSI fule pressure gauge to measure and adjust this fuel pressure.

I have yet to try this as I do not have a gauge..lol. If you do, let us know how it turns out! Cheers!

Thumbs up

Thanx for the help dude! I will try it out...

Meanwhile, does anyone have a picture of how the fuel distributor looks like?

Did you say carburated engine? In that case, you don't have a pressurized fuel distributor. These are on fuel injected motors. I have zero experience with MB carbies, but from what you describe, you don't have a working accelerator pump. The accelerator pump on a carburator squirts some raw gas down the throat of the carb when the accelerator is steped on. Suddenly oppening the throttle causes the fuel / air mixture to go really lean, so the solution is a squirt of gas. There should be some kind of mechanical linkage that works some kind of diaphragm pump, that is your accelerator pump. Hope this helps.

There is NO carb on an '86. Mechanical fuel injection (Bosch KE Jetronic) with electronic mixture adaptation and idle control.

Didn't think so, but in his first post he said carb, which threw me. I figured Singapore....who knows?
