tires and thickness

Irecently bought some kuhmo 17 inch tires. however once they were put on they seemed awfully "thick" as in too much rubber . I realized I have no clue on how to buy tires. I like the tires that show more chrome and very little rubber..however I want the tires to last long too? So what kind of tires do I want?
I think I purrhased 235/r35/17 or something like that

Dood, he problem is you went for too wide a tire with the same aspect ratio.

215 45 17 is the size you need.

45 means the thickness is 45% of the width (215mm) which is 96mm thick

235 45 17 is all wrong

45% of 235 is 105.75mm thick....

go back to 215...
