1992 300CE sportline
So anyway, I've always liked these W124 coupes but have never owned one. I came across a guy selling a 300CE Sportline and the body looks good, but I suspect maintenance neglect. I also suspect this is a car I saw awhile back being sold by someone else pretty cheap. Now it may be a failed flip or someone got in over their head when they found out how much some parts cost. When I asked the last guy about the car (before he sold it) he said it would sputter when it ran. This other guy says it's drivable but needs brakes, but that's his perception.
I've been doing a little digging on what to look for and right now I'm worried about the head gasket being an issue and don't know if the car has ASR yet. I'm going to doing the typical checks and look for oil leaks when I go see it. By the pics I've seen the trim on the console looks like its delaminating and interior could use a good cleaning, but otherwise intact. The car has 12x,xxx miles on in.
I don't see Sportline coupes very often and thats why I want it. Any input or thoughts before I start haggling?

It would be worth it to have a shop do a quick check, paying attention to compression, head gasket, timing chain etc..... A lot of folks buy these and never maintain them. They are so well built that they kept going even without service...but at some point you have to do the service. If you're the guy at the end of that line, it may be too much of an investment. If you're serous, have it inspected by a good shop. This will give you a lot of insight. There are a lot of em out there. If this is your passion then take your time when buying. The styling is timeless and they are a great driving little car.
