Question I can't find what model this steering box goes to. W124

Hello! I'm new to this forum and signed up because I am stumped!

Last year, when buying some parts for my 300TE, the seller basically just threw in a steering box for free. He said it was a rare part for a Sportline 124.

I have googled the part numbers on the box many times and can't figure out if that's true or what car this box comes from.

The PNs on the box are:
124 461 04 01
124 461 00 05

There are a few other numbers on it but none follow the PN naming format except for those two.

Thanks for reading!

Have you read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merced...ortline_option

Do you have EPC? This is the best source for part number info.

I did some searching in EPC using VINs from 1992-1993 190E and 300E models. There is text references to "sports undercarriage" in the steering gear part number data field. But no parts matching yours. It seems possible the steering gear you have is for a 1992-1993 W124 with "sportsline" option. This is a faster ratio steering gear and smaller diameter steering wheel, according to wikipedia.

I would suggest you post your question in the W124 section of this forum. There will be W124 owners there who can help you. You can also try the MB Classic Center in CA by sending them an email. I think most of them are working from home due to COVID but they'll likely be able to identify your part..
