'85 300 turbodiesel acceleration problem
Not that the old gal had been quick off the lights, but after a 500 mile roundtrip last weekend she's really slow out of the hole and runs thru the gears before 35mph. Didn't notice the poor performance until off the interstate.
Currently, the accelerator must be pushed almost to the wall to get off the line and up to speed. Once rolling she still requires a lot of throttle unlike before the trip.
Couple of points to add that may help in your evaluation:
1. 173,000 miles
2. new oil and filter 172,200
3. oil leak (passenger side) developed recently but dip stick never showed much loss until...here's where it gets bad
4. after the 500 mile roadtrip and she was down 2 qts!!!!!!
5. ran her at 70-75 most of the trip, with a couple of high speed upshifts to pass.
I'm thinking the worst...blown turbo.
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

I would check all the vacum hoses - just make sure nothing feel off , etc.
Do you feel any turbo boost at all - I had one of these cars and the turbo kick was always obvious.
Otherwise I would search for the diesel guys on the web.
Best of luck.

turbo oil leak
qdessa,
Thanks for taking a shot at my problem. Fortunately, I found the oil tube to the turbo needed replacing. Once fixed, the acceleration and performance are back to normal.
