I believe that is the outside temperature. There is a small sensor right near the front liscense plate that connects back through the fire wall to the digital display. Mine is usually pretty accurate, although on really hot days the initial temp. usually cools down by a couple of degrees once you start moving since it's no longer being parked over the same piece of sweltering asphalt.

Thumbs up

Thanks a lot MHORN that is much appreciated.

In the center of the dashboard with the air con controls there's a switch with either a sqaure or circle with wavey lines through it, now the air con dosen't work for some reason so i'm going to have to send it in to MB for fixing but i'm not in too much of a hurry to do this, as i've heard it cost's a lot to fix and run, and as i am located in sunny Manchester England theres not much call for it anyhow but it would be nice to know what thing's are for before i spend money on it.

If anyone could help me find a copy of the handbook for this car on the net i would be most greatfull.

you're welcome. The switch you're describing with the wavy lines running through it sounds like the defrost switch. If you're Air Conditioning doesn't work then the defrost is pretty much useless as well. As far as a handbook goes I don't know if you're asking for an owner's manual or a repair manual. I would recommend Stu Ritter's "W124 Owners Bible". I've found this book very helpful and it is available at almost any online bookstore. It describes many of the features of these cars and how to perfrom almost any repair advisable by a do it yourself mechanic. Good Luck, Matt.

Thanks again Matt
I will look for that one, i have what is called a Haynes manual which is simular but only discribes how to locate and repair the car, but not what the controls are.
