window roll up/down with key lock

My 1991 300E will roll up the windows by holding the key in the lock position IF the windows are left down. After they have been rolled up and the car locked, you can unlock the car and hold the key in the unlock position and the windows will roll down again. However, IF I come out to the car after it's been sitting awhile with everything rolled up and hold the key in the unlock position in the door nothing happens. Is something broken or is this normal?

Mine does the exact same thing. To roll the windows down with the key, you have to do it right after you roll them up.

Don't know if its normal or a common problem.

This is normal. Mine does the same thing. It is a timer which limits the memory to a certain time, after that it won't "know" that the windows were open.

Is there any way to remove the timer so that you can roll up/down the windows by holding the key in the lock/unlock position?

I dunno about removing the timer but...... even though the windows are closed already, try holding the key in the closed position and then immediately hold it in the open position and they will all open

The idea is that if something or someone gets trapped when closing the windows, you can open them... a sort of emergency release if you like. So pretending to close the windows fools the system into letting you open them.

gotcha, so when I go out to my car after it's been sitting in the sun all day and the seats are hot enough to fry an egg on I just hold the key in the lock postion and then flip over to unlock and the windows will roll down. Thanks, Matt.
