Measuring Vehicle Level

Hi all,

I've read 40-0003 in the maintenance manual which describes using some very specialized tools for measuring the vehicle level for all w124s, using the specs given in 40-0001. I'm guessing that the measurement is a comparison between some point on the frame and some point on the wishbone, for the front, and some point on the frame to some point on rear axle shaft for the rear, but god knows which points. Does anyone have this information?? Also, I'm assuming all adjustment is done via replacement of the spring buffers.

By the way, I'm doing this because I have installed the 'sports chassis' on my '94 e420 and would like to do this before getting an alignment and, no, there is no Mercedes dealer or good Indy within a reasonable drive (I'm in Vermont).

Thanks! -- Greg

Thanks, but that's going to vary by tire, inflation etc. Others have suggested from the center of the wheel to the wheel arch should be 14-15" with the rear being no lower then the front and max difference from side to side being 15mm. Differences in heights owing to different suspension options.

It will be more consistent that you trying to eyeball a measurement to the center of the wheel. What exactly are you trying to achieve?

Just trying to check whether my car is in spec. Turns out left and right rear differ by about 1/2" (just barely within spec) and the rear sits a bit low. Want to know what the height should be etc.
